Oral Mucosa

The moist, pink mucous membrane lining the inside of the mouth, including the cheeks (buccal mucosa), lips, and soft palate.

Why It Matters

It acts as a barrier against pathogens. Changes in the mucosa—such as ulcers, color changes, or rough patches—are often the first signs of systemic diseases (like anemia or lichen planus) or oral cancer.
