Clinically known as Orthognathic Surgery. It is a corrective surgical procedure performed by an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to straighten or realign the jaw bones (maxilla and mandible).
It is required when a patient’s bite issues are skeletal (the bones are too large/small) rather than just dental. Braces move teeth, but surgery moves the bone itself to fix severe underbites, overbites, or asymmetry.
