Occlusion

The contact relationship between the maxillary (upper) and mandibular (lower) teeth when the jaws are in a closed position (static occlusion) or during chewing movements (dynamic occlusion).

Why It Matters

Proper occlusion distributes chewing forces evenly across all teeth. If the bite is unbalanced, specific teeth bear too much load, causing fractures, gum recession, or muscle tension (TMJ disorders).
