Knocked-Out Tooth (Avulsed Tooth)

Clinically known as Tooth Avulsion. It is a dental emergency where a tooth is completely displaced from its socket due to trauma (sports injury, fall, or accident).

Why It Matters

An avulsed permanent tooth can often be saved if re-implanted within 60 minutes. The periodontal ligament cells on the root surface must remain alive for reattachment to occur.

FAQ

Can a knocked-out tooth be put back in?

Yes. If you act fast and keep the root moist, a dentist can re-implant it and splint it to neighbors for 2 weeks.
