Dental Arch

The crescent or U-shaped arrangement of teeth in the jaw. Humans have two arches: the Maxillary Arch (upper jaw, fixed to the skull) and the Mandibular Arch (lower jaw, movable).

Why It Matters

The alignment of the two arches determines the bite (occlusion). Loss of an entire arch of teeth leads to facial collapse and inability to eat.
