A pocket of pus caused by a bacterial infection. It can occur at different regions of the tooth:
An abscess will not go away on its own. It is a "ticking time bomb." If the sac of pus ruptures, the pain may stop, but the bacteria can spread to your jawbone, neck, or even your heart (Sepsis).
