Receding Gums (Gingival Recession)

A progressive condition where the margin of the gum tissue wears away or pulls back, exposing the tooth root.

Why It Matters

Exposed roots are highly sensitive to cold and prone to decay (root caries) because they lack enamel protection. It also makes teeth look "long" and aged.

What causes receding gums?

Aggressive brushing (using hard bristles), periodontal disease, smoking, and genetics (thin gum biotype).

Can a receding gum grow back?

No. Once gum tissue is lost, it does not regenerate naturally.

How to fix receding gums?

A Gum Graft (connective tissue graft) is performed to surgically cover the exposed root.
