A periodontal procedure, clinically known as Scaling and Root Planing (SRP), designed to treat gum disease. Unlike a regular cleaning (prophylaxis) which focuses above the gumline, deep cleaning removes bacteria and calculus from the pockets below the gumline.
It is the "gold standard" non-surgical treatment for Periodontitis. By smoothing the root surfaces (planing), the gum tissue can re-attach to the tooth, reducing pocket depth and preventing bone loss.
It is the removal of hardened tartar from the tooth roots to stop gum disease.
The procedure is performed while numb, so it is painless. Post-operative soreness and cold sensitivity are common for 2-3 days as the gums heal.
